Attorney General William P. Barr appointed John Cody Barnes as an immigration judge in June2020. Judge Barnes earned a Bachelor of Science in 2002 from Texas A&M University and aJuris Doctor in 2009 from Ave Maria School of Law. From 2018 to 2020, he served as anassistant U.S. attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, in CorpusChristi, Texas. From 2017 to 2018, he served as the editor of The Army Lawyer, Judge AdvocateGeneral’s Legal Center and School, in Charlottesville, Virginia. From 2015 to 2017, he served asa training officer, Defense Counsel Assistance Program, U.S. Army, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.From 2013 to 2015, he served as defense counsel, U.S. Army, in the following locations: FortSam Houston, Texas, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. From 2010 to 2013, he served first as a laborcounsel for a year, and then as a trial counsel/special assistant U.S. attorney, U.S. Army, at FortSill, Oklahoma. Judge Barnes is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
